Emiratesque: SPAR – A New Supermarket in Town
A new retail shop just joined the competition in Abu Dhabi giving customers more options for quality grocery shopping experience around the capital. It used to be Spinney's, Abella, or Carrefour only. Ok, maybe not Carrefour; forgot I said 'quality experience'. Spar, the giant Dutch retail chain, is expanding in the Middle East by launching their first store in the capital earlier this month with plans to open a second one in the near future also in Abu Dhabi.
I visited the store and it looked promising. They seem to focus on fresh food like fruits, vegetables, deli, and meats. I also spotted few products that I haven't seen in other supermarkets. I liked that they had a bakery, a Chinese food kitchen, and a fresh fruit juice bar. I also liked the fact that their shelves were not giant walls of products, rather, they were taller than an average human hight, making it easier to browse for stuff, and adding to the coziness factor for the shopper. Yes people! I care about the 'coziness factor' when I do my grocery shopping; that includes lights, music, shelves hight to name few.
